This black and white Real Photo postcard published by Stonefield of West Hartlepool shows a group of soldiers with a number of unexploded German shells; on the morning of December 16th 1914 units of the Imperial German Navy, notably SMS Seydlitz, Moltke and Blücher, opened up a bombardment on Hartlepool and West Hartlepool firing some 1150 shells and killing 117 residents.

This black and white Real Photo postcard published by R. Johnston & Son of Gateshead shows a view of Palmer’s Ship Yard on the River Tyne at Hebburn; Palmers Shipbuilding and Iron Company was established in 1852 by Charles Mark Palmer in Jarrow with another yard at Hebburn, the latter later being taken over by Vickers Armstrong. The closure of the Jarrow yard led to the Jarrow Crusade, the protest march to London against unemployment in 1936.
